HOW TO HOST A BLOOD DRIVE:

All American Red Cross blood drives are hosted by volunteers.

Businesses, churches, synagogues, community organizations, and schools are all working voluntarily to assure that our blood supply is adequate.

To be sure of meeting our lifesaving goal of 1200 donors each day, we work months ahead of time to identify who will host the blood drives each and every day, and to determine how many donors to expect at each drive. New blood drive hosts are always needed, especially at holiday time. We need you!

WHAT A BLOOD DRIVE HOST DOES:

  • Offers a suitable location.
  • Helps recruit donors from their group or community
  • Schedules donors for their donation appointment.
  • Provides food and drink for the blood donors
  • Provides volunteers to assist with the operation of the blood drive

If your group needs help with these tasks our professional staff will assist you.

THE AMERICAN RED CROSS DOES THE REST:

An American Red Cross representative works with you every step of the way, as you plan and organize your blood drive;

  • We'll help you determine how many donors to expect, and we'll reserve the skilled collection staff you'll need for your blood drive;
  • We'll bring the blood drive to you (setting up the equipment and taking it with us when we leave);
  • And we'll confidentially screen donors and collect blood donations that are then sent to our Red Cross labs for testing.

Whether your organization is large or small, you can make a difference. In fact, small groups and businesses can easily participate by sponsoring a day at one of our donor centers, or through our GEM Program, short for Goal Efficient Mini-Mobile.
